Hart Materials supplies nine types of metallic flakes exhibiting soft ferromagnetism. Novamet Nickel Flakes Nickel metal is inherently ferromagnetic and four different forms of magnetic nickel flakes are available from Hart Materials. As Novamet Stainless Steel Flakes are manufactured from austenitic UPS–S31603 powder (AISI Type 316 L) they would not be expected to be ferromagnetic. However, structural changes to the material occur during the flaking process that appear to induce the formation of martensite in all four grades, rendering them ferromagnetic. Novamet Permalloy Flakes Hart Materials supplies ferromagnetic flakes manufactured from a standard Permalloy composition magnetic powder (82% Ni – 2% Mo – 16% Fe).
