Nickel Electroforming Featured in Coating Technology Publication

YearbookDr Tony Hart, a highly recognised expert in nickel electroforming, was invited to submit a chapter on ‘Electroforming with Nickel’ for the latest Jahrbuch Oberflächentechnik, a German coating technology publication.

The chapter gives a comprehensive overview of the technology, describing many of the major applications, including the manufacture of CDs and DVDs, security holograms, screen printing cylinders, nickel foams and foils, ultra-high precision diamond grinding tools and surface finish standards.

Although nickel electroforming is a major sector of the nickel deposition market, it is still not widely recognised as a manufacturing technology, even by experienced engineers, technologists and scientists.

Dr Hart, Managing Director of Hart Materials, with over 45 years’ experience in this industry, comments: “It is perhaps not surprising that the profile of electroforming is quite low in the wider surface engineering industry as the markets it serves are so diverse.”

“However, this lack of information means that many people involved in surface engineering are not aware of the phenomenal properties of the electroforming process.”

The German publication covers various other aspects of coating technology and includes sections on the following:

  • Mechanical, physical and chemical pre-treatment
  • Coating processes (electroplating, thin-film technology, thermal spraying)
  • Post-treatment procedure
  • Layers for 3D printing
  • Layers for offshore applications
  • Surface technology aspects in micro process engineering
  • Process engineering
  • Points of contact for electroplating technology
  • Overview articles about surface technology or transdisciplinary topics

The yearbook is available for purchase from publishers, Leuze Verlag, for 62,00 € (including tax) →
