Hart Materials' is now able to supply silver-coated products as hollow spheres, which have a much lower density than those based on solid substrate cores.
The lowest density, currently available with hollow glass, has a density of 0.5g/cc. This means that any particular weight will provide a significantly higher volume of material.
This has provided a very positive effect in PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) and PTV (Particle Tracking Velocimetry) applications.
The high number density and volume, and low weight of the particles helps trace the flow, while the silver coating provides greater incident light scattering, resulting in a stronger signal to the camera and hence better images.
