Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited Hart Materials in Wombourne earlier this month.
His aim was to gain further insight into the industry and understand the impact that the EU’s REACH Regulation has on companies using chemical compounds as part of their manufacturing processes.
Hart Materials Chairman, Dr. Tony Hart, had sent Mr. Williamson a press release, written by David Elliott, Chief Executive of the Surface Engineering Association (SEA) and President of the European Committee for Surface Treatment (CETS), which exposed exaggerated claims of the Regulation’s cost savings and benefits to companies.
“Mr. Williamson is our local MP so I felt it was important to let him know about the challenges experienced by the sector,” Tony Hart explained.
“I also regularly attended annual meetings at the House of Lords, organised by the SEA, which gives the Association a platform to highlight the problems faced by its members, including this ineffective EU Regulation.”
With past experience in manufacturing industry, Mr. Williamson was keen to learn more about the issues related to REACH Regulation as well as the products and services provided by Hart Materials.
Commenting on his visit, Mr. Williamson said: “It was great to meet Tony and visit Hart Materials and hear more about the company. It was really insightful to be able to discover and discuss more about the sector and the current challenges that they face and I look forward to hearing more about the company in the future.”
