NOVAMET Nickel-Coated Graphite Products

NOVAMET Nickel-Coated Graphite particles have, during the last 10 years, established a unique reputation for exceptional performance combined with reduced cost in EMC shielding applications.

These particles consist of a low-density graphite core coated with an outer layer of very pure high conductivity nickel metal. Two grades – one containing 60% Nickel and the other 75% Nickel – are suitable for shielding applications. 75% Nickel-Coated Graphite has a smaller particle size and a higher apparent density than 60%.

This gives the formulator a degree of flexibility which enables the properties of the intermediate materials into which they are incorporated to be varied according to the specific requirements of the final application.

The major application of NOVAMET Nickel-Coated Graphite is as an electrically conductive filler in non-conductive resins.

These are used to manufacture EMC shielding gaskets; including extruded, moulded, sheet and form-in-place products. Taking into account shielding effectiveness, galvanic corrosion effects together with price Nickel-Coated Graphite is very competitive, even with pure silver particulates, for many applications.

NOVAMET Nickel-Coated Graphite is can also be used for plasma spraying and for the manufacture of products with unique friction properties.

NOVAMET Silver-Coated Nickel Spheres

NOVAMET Silver-Coated Nickel Spheres were introduced in 1984 as fillers for resin-based materials where the highest levels of electrical conductivity are required for EMC shielding and other similar uses.

Two grades are currently available – standard with a d50 of about Xµm and coarse with a d50 in the region of Yµm.

These materials are generally used in a silicone elastomeric base to produce products such as highly conductive extrusions and mouldings.

Results that compare to those that can be achieved with pure silver can often be matched at a significantly lower cost.

In addition the nickel core of these composite particles provides ferromagnetic properties - which can be a critical performance factor in some applications – and which pure silver particles do not possess.
