NOVAMET and INCO Nickel Oxides

Hart Materials Limited supplies  6 specialised nickel oxides, four based on green nickel oxide composition and two on black nickel oxide.

NOVAMET Green Nickel Oxide

This is a stoichiometric oxide (NiO) which contains 78.5% nickel metal and is chemically a relatively un-reactive material.

Three grades of NOVAMET Green Nickel Oxide are available all of which are produced to the ultra-high purity standards required for the most exacting applications.

NOVAMET Standard Grade Green Nickel Oxide

Standard Grade

This consists of 14 – 18 µm particles made up of three dimensional chains of smaller 2-3 micron sub-particles. Due to its very high purity and regular particle size distribution it is used in precision electronics applications such as thermistor and varistor manufacture.

Type ‘A’ Grade and Type ‘F’

Both of these grades enjoy the same level of ultra-high purity as the Standard Grade but, in contrast, consist of discrete particles. Type ‘A’ has a typical mean particle size of 6 – 10 µm whereas Type ‘F’ is a much finer product at 1 – 2 µm.

These products are ideal for important environmentally friendly applications such as solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC).

INCO Black Nickel Oxide

INCO Black Nickel Oxide (Ni2O3) is also an ultra-high purity product containing approximately 77% nickel metal which   is chemically reactive in acidic media. Two grades are available, ‘A’ Grade  which has a typical mean particle size of 6 microns and ‘F’ Grade which is considerably finer at 2.5 microns.

Black nickel oxides are used in automotive exhaust catalysts and high purity salt manufacture.

NOVAMET Refractory Grade Nickel Oxide

This is basically a green nickel oxide containing 75% nickel plus a maximum of 1.5% cobalt. It is ground to a controlled particle size distribution and a tight surface area specification of 2.0 m2/g
